7-Seater Family Car: 9 Best Picks by Segment and Price in Vietnam (2026)

Choosing a 7-seater family car in Vietnam has never come with so many options: MPVs from just over VND 500 million, body-on-frame SUVs above VND 1 billion, and now three-row electric models. More choice also makes it harder to balance price, space and running costs.

This guide sorts the 7-seater family car market into 7 segments, with photos and list prices for 9 popular models (updated early October 2026), plus 6 simple criteria to help you pick the right one for your household.

1. Why Choose a 7-Seater Family Car?

Many Vietnamese families travel as three generations: grandparents, parents and young children. A 5-seater can carry everyone only by giving up room for luggage, a stroller or a child seat. A 7-seater solves that with a third row that folds flat when you do not need it.

Most 7-seaters also sit higher, give a better view of the road and are easier to get in and out of, which helps older passengers. The trade-offs are a longer body, higher fuel use than a sedan at the same price, and a third row that in many models only suits children.

2. 7-Seater Family Car Prices by Segment

The table uses manufacturer list prices in Vietnamese dong (VND), before registration tax, plate fees and insurance. On-the-road prices for petrol and diesel cars are usually about 10–15% higher.

Mitsubishi Xpander – the best-selling small MPV

Price: VND 560–659 million (Xpander Cross: VND 699 million). It uses a 1.5L petrol engine with 104 hp, a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic, and averages about 7 L/100 km. Its strengths are an accessible price, a roomy cabin for its size and low servicing costs. The engine feels only adequate with seven people on a steep hill.

Toyota Veloz Cross – a well-equipped small MPV

Price: VND 638–660 million. The Veloz Cross pairs a 105 hp 1.5L petrol engine with a CVT and uses about 6.3 L/100 km. The top trim adds the Toyota Safety Sense driver-assist package. Together with the Xpander, it accounts for more than half of small MPV sales in Vietnam.

VinFast Limo Green – an electric MPV under VND 700 million

Price: VND 699 million. A 201 hp electric motor and a 60.13 kWh LFP battery give a range of about 450 km, and DC fast charging takes it from 10% to 70% in roughly 30 minutes. At 4.74 m long with a 2.84 m wheelbase, all three rows are fairly roomy. The interior is simple because the car is also aimed at ride-hailing use.

Toyota Innova Cross – a midsize MPV with a hybrid

Price: VND 730 million (2.0G), 825 million (2.0V) and 960 million (2.0 HEV). The 2.0L petrol version makes 172 hp with a CVT. The hybrid has an official combined figure of just 4.92 L/100 km, clearly lower than the 7.1–7.2 L of the petrol car. If hybrids are new to you, read our hybrid car guide.

Toyota Fortuner – a durable body-on-frame SUV

Price: VND 1.055–1.35 billion. The Fortuner offers three engines: a 147 hp 2.4L diesel, a 164 hp 2.7L petrol and a 201 hp 2.8L diesel, all with a 6-speed automatic. Its ladder frame and high ground clearance suit provincial and mountain roads. It holds its value well but rides less smoothly than a unibody crossover.

Ford Everest – a tech-heavy body-on-frame SUV

Price: VND 1.129–1.629 billion. The 2.0L turbo-diesel versions make 170 hp and 405 Nm with a 10-speed automatic. The range-topping Platinum+ uses a 300 hp 2.3L EcoBoost petrol engine with four-wheel drive. The Everest stands out for its large screen, driver-assist features and towing ability.

Hyundai Santa Fe – a comfortable D-segment crossover

Price: VND 1.069–1.369 billion. The new-generation Santa Fe has a boxy shape with more boot and third-row space than before. Engine choices are a 2.5L petrol, a 2.5L turbo petrol and a 1.6L turbo hybrid (VND 1.369 billion). Its unibody construction makes it smoother in town than a body-on-frame SUV.

Kia Carnival – a large MPV for big families

Price: VND 1.299–1.879 billion. The Carnival has powered sliding doors on both sides, 7- or 8-seat layouts and lounge-style second-row seats on higher trims. Engines include a 2.2L diesel, a 1.6L turbo hybrid and a 3.5L petrol. It is the most comfortable choice for long trips, but at over 5 m long it is awkward in narrow lanes.

VinFast VF 9 – a large electric SUV

4. 6 Criteria for Choosing a 7-Seater Family Car

  • How many people ride regularly: if you only fill all seven seats now and then, a small MPV is enough. If six or seven adults travel often, look at the Innova Cross or Carnival.
  • The third row: sit in it yourself. In many SUVs it only suits children.
  • Your usual roads: for mostly city driving, an MPV or unibody crossover is smoother. For rough or mountain roads, a body-on-frame SUV is tougher.
  • Child safety: look for ISOFIX child-seat anchors, at least 6 airbags and electronic stability control.
  • Running costs: add up fuel, servicing and insurance. Hybrids and EVs save more the further you drive, but an EV needs convenient charging.
  • On-the-road price: always add taxes and fees to the list price before comparing two models.

💡 Tip: Bring the whole family and a child seat to the test drive. The right 7-seater family car is the one where the people in the last row are comfortable too.

5. Summary: Which 7-Seater Fits Which Budget?

Under VND 700 million, the Xpander and Veloz Cross are safe choices, and the Limo Green is worth a look if you can charge at home. Between VND 700 million and 1 billion, the Innova Cross stands out for its space and hybrid option.

Above VND 1 billion, choose by how you drive: the Fortuner and Everest for tough roads, the Santa Fe for smooth city use, the Carnival for big families and the VF 9 if you want a large EV. No single 7-seater family car is best for every household, only the one that best fits your needs and budget.

Frequently Asked Questions About the 7-Seater Family Car

What is the cheapest 7-seater family car in Vietnam?

Among popular models, the Mitsubishi Xpander manual starts at VND 560 million. Some other MPVs, such as the Hyundai Stargazer, start lower at around VND 489 million.

Should I buy a 7-seat MPV or SUV?

An MPV gives more space and better economy for the money, and suits city driving with many passengers. An SUV has more ground clearance and a tougher build for provincial trips and rough roads.

Is an electric 7-seater a good family car?

Yes, if you can charge at or near home and most of your driving is in the city. For long trips you need to plan charging stops in advance.

How much higher is the on-the-road price than the list price?

Usually about 10–15% higher because of registration tax, plate fees, inspection and insurance. The exact amount depends on the province and the policies in force when you buy.
